Bio Popo's epic east coast bio trek
Follow the bio trek

Bio Popo (that is not his real name) senior member from the biofuelsforum was musing that it might be a good idea to head off on a log haul drive and whether it would be possible to make biodiesel as he went along. We thought it would be a great idea and suggested he give it a go. So we've decided to follow Dave's (that is his real name) "epic east coast bio trek".

Dave will be leaving from Melbourne in the coming weeks, processing oil as it's donated to him and gradually moving his way up the east coast of Australia to Cairns and we will be with him all the way. Well nearly. Check with us regularly at brisbanebiodiesel.com for blogs, photos and oil drop off points.

One month on

More than a month now has passed since this idea was first posed at the biofuelsforum. Going from not having made any biodiesel when he first spawned the idea, Dave is now making 15 litre batches in a 20L carboy processor. He aquired everything he needs to make biodiesel "on the road". And he is looking forward to the trip and meeting biofuelsforum members along the way. In the coming months Dave will be collecting, processing and using vegetable oil donated by biofuelsforum members.

Bio Popo bio

In the words of the man, "... I grew up watching dragonball Z and my favourite character was a guy named Mr.Popo, so I just adapted that to biodiesel and hence Bio Popo was born!"

Itinerary

Dave says, "Not 100% when I'll be leaving....just made a few batches and I have to wait and see how they turn out (they've been settling for about 36hrs now). But hopefully it will be soon. PLUS, I'm not sure yet whether I'll be travelling for 1 month or whether I'll drag it out over 4 months."

The End

This was the last post that Dave made at biofuelsforum.com before returning home to Canada:

hahah, back in Sydney! Byron bay was absolutely wonderful, and thanks to the generosity (which I have seen so often on this trip) from matt, I made my back down the coast with a brief stopover in Myall's national park to do some camping.
But now my trip is coming to an end....I leave to go back to Canada in a couple of weeks and now just have to find a buyer for my car and head down to Melbourne to fly out.
So yes, I'm still alive, and doing splendidly,

Dave

While Dave didn't make it up to Cairns he definately demonstrated that he could have. He mixed travelling with work and pleasure and had a blast along the way.

Good on ya mate... Joe
